Ideas 2

Following on from our other ideas post we’d like to get some more feedback on what mobs people want to do. Check back to our first 13 ideas and let us know if theres any there which we haven’t done yet but you’d still like to do, if you have any new ideas of your own post them in the comments as well.

#7: Improv Everywhere: This was a popular idea and we’d like to know which IE mission you are most interested in…

7.1: Frozen Event: Everybody freezes in a public space for about 5 mins: Youtube Video, IE Report, Global Freeze Events

7.2: Random Musical: Bunch of seamingly random people break out into song in a public place: Youtube Video, IE Report

7.3: Time Loop: Bunch of people repeat a bunch of actions over and over: Youtube Video, IE Report

7.4: Un-Employees : Everybody dresses similar to the employees of a shop then all go there and confuse everybody: IE Report

7.4: MP3 Actions: We make and MP3 with a bunch of instructions on it and everyone dowloads it, puts it on their mp3 player and presses play at the same time (IE have done this a number of times): Youtube Video

speed download

, IE Report

Many more ideas after the jump.

#14: Be Free: how about lots of people go to kfc, order the popcorn chicken, throw it in the air and scream, “be free”

#15: Collective Buying : We should choose a bunnings and everybody buys only 1 screw, lug nut, nail etc and then pays with a $50 note

#16: RickMob: Following the recent RickRolling Internet craze. They live Rickrolled the Liverpool Street tube station and are estimating they got around 1000 people participating. Youtube Video, Original Facebook Event.

#17: Random Dancing: Hokey Pokey and Turn Around Rundle Mall, The chicken dance.

#18: Loop: Loop around the david jones escalator.

#19: Stop : Go somewhere where a lot of people have to exit from, and all hold our hands with the stop geasture for a minute. One person starts, and everybody cascades the stop.

Variation on Stop: it might be funny to get somesone with one of those sign that construction workers have with ‘stop’ on one side and ‘slow’ on the other and stand with it in a busy pedestrian area. Mobbers approach and stop as the sign says.

#20: Mouse

: everybody goes into the myer food court and finds a seat, one person yells out mouse and everybody scrambles to jump up onto their chairs and reacts to an imaginary mouse (could also have someone dressed in a mouse costume)

#21: Simon Does: i like the idea of everyone copying someone at the same time. I thought it might be interesting to everyone to bring/ buy a newspaper and then we all sit down in a particular area like a coffee shop or something and copy the actions of one person. The newspaper would make a good prop and would produce some interesting sounds with everyone doing it at the same time.

#22: Traiter: The flash mobbers all group around somewhere, one of the mobbers walk by and then someone goes, “OI ITS HIM” and then all the mobbers take chase.

#23: Metal Head: First we need to contact that guy whos always walking down Rundle Mall very fast and listening to heavy metal, then, as long as its ok with him we incorporate him into a mob such as everyone follows him and sings along to the music like him.

#24: The Enormous Turnip: Based on that children’s picture book. Someone either gets stuck somewhere and can’t pull themselves free or finds something on the ground, in a crack (like a turnip) and can’t pull it up so they enlist the help of a passerby to help out. They still can’t do it so they get someone else and so on until theres a long line of people, each person pulling the person in front of them.

#25: Towel Day or Carrotty Paniccy Buy…: Do something for one of these upcoming events.

#26: Dance Off/Battle: This one would require some forward planning. Basically we plant two ‘buskers’ near each other in Rundle Mall each doing something song and dance related. We have them get more and more annoyed at each other for steeling spectators and getting in each others way until they decide to have a Dance Off/ Dance Battle to settle the arguments. This would probably have to be pre-rehersed and choreographed, but then the rest of the mobbers come in and take sides and cheer on their respective side.

#27: Lip Dub Mob: Do a preplanned Lip Dub in a public place, film it and put it on the net. Lip Dubbing is another internet craze, check it out.

7.1 Frozen event – I’ve heard this takes a LOT of practice for people to freeze in place. We may need to practice first

7.2 Random musical – Would this be a prepared song beforehand or are people going to start singing Chaser style?

    14. I’m not sure they’re going to like people throwing stuff everywhere (we’d probably get chased out by security guards) – besides the Chaser have done this already.

    15. Sounds fun but will it really make an impact?

16 – I don’t even understand this one, I’m not sure if anyone in Adelaide would.

    17 and 18 and 19 – fun!

Stop variation – so long as we don’t control traffic I figure we won’t get arrested for it.

22 – Would we yell “THIEF” or “GET HIM?” this could result in injury.

    23 – I LIKE that idea.
    Lip dub – Also fun!

    In order of preference:-
#16. Rickmob – nothin like mob singin in the streets for fun.

#17. Go the chicken dance! (a fun one)

#21. Simon Does. Could be interesting

#23. Metal Head. Could be fun but the guy can be a little agro at times. Approach with caution.

  3. Mat Woods Says:

‘Unemployees’ sounds good, as long as people don’t go too crazy. I think it’d work best if people act as the actual employees do. But don’t go behind the counter or take money from anyone!

‘Traiter’ is OK, but yeah, could result in injury. Definitely don’t cry out THIEF and probably not GET HIM either. Saying ‘OI IT’S HIM’ is good because it doesn’t necessarily mean they’re a bad person (it could be a celebrity)

‘Rick Rolling’ is people singing ‘Never gonna give you up’ and then others singing ‘Never gonna let you down’ etc. Is that what it is? It’s a bad 80s song, so if you don’t remember the 80s (or aren’t old enough to) then you probably won’t get it. It’s probably one of those ‘so lame it’s funny’ kinda things.

‘Metal Head’ is a very, very bad idea in my opinion. But hey, if someone else wants to go ask if they can mimic a guy with possible mental issues, (and pretty much pointing out that he’s a weirdo) then go right ahead.

  4. Amy Says:

Someone who’s been in the London flashmobs has suggested a massive pillowfight (they say the ones with feathers are good but I have a feeling people won’t like us spreading feathers everywhere). Is this going to happen in Rundle Mall? Or are we going to go pick a park or something that’s full of picknickers?

  5. Robin Says:

The best ideas are the ones that don’t require owning/ purchasing specific stuff ( i.e i have no mp3 player so couldn’t participate in mp3 actions – bummer, and un-employees would require getting the uniforms…)

I LOVE random musical, Mouse, the enormous turnip (variation) and Traitor – yes we might bump into eachother but there’s nothing quite like Chasey in the streets!

And having checked out carrotty paniccy buy and Towel day I’m gunna participate in both so would love to see if we could get a whole bunch (ha) of us in on that!

  6. Steph Says:

I’m going to have to disagree with metal head, It’s not necessary that i go into detail on a public site but we’ll just leave that be.. Moving on i think all the ideas are great i’d love to participate in a musical that’d be the cherry on top!

  7. Jimmy Says:

the enormous turnip could be fun.
I also like the idea of the stop variation.
    mouse could be very funny.
I’ll be doing Towel Day no matter what.

I’d take part in most of the ideas up there.

  8. Dom Says:

    Hey guys.

I got this idea after they were celebrating a new Pokemon release in marion and people were walking around in pokemon outfits.

If we had a few people dressed in pokemon outfits and then a massive mob of people chasing them down say rundle mall running after them throwing ‘pokeballs’ (painted tennisballs) at them trying to catch the people dressed as Pokemon.

    Dom

  9. Dom Says:

another note on the pokemon idea. Maybe hand out pokeballs to random kids in the mall before the pokemon run down the street. Would be incredibly funny seeing random lil kids throwing pokeballs at these people. Thinking a nurf ball would be ‘safer’ to as opposed to a tennis-ball, perhaps stress-balls or something

  10. steve Says:

this idea needs about 8 people and 4 cars, one at each consecutive bus stop (at a quiet time of day), when the bus comes ask if it is a different bus (eg 733 comes say is this the 722), when you are told no, step back. get in the car and drive to the next stop after the fourth person, the driver will be fair confused

  11. Dan Says:

Many cyclists. One Brittania Round-a-bout. Build up a carousel and keep going round the round-a-bout then scram.

  12. devlin Says:

Ok I have one for you. Instead of the 80s song how about the Rolling Stones song Satisfaction. I think that in a mall or a parking lot to a large store that is empty(or not :) ) would be funny!!!

  13. devlin Says:

PLEASE hit me up on myspace. Devlin3373 so I can see if there is something in my area and if not I can get something setup. I think the RollingStones is what i will try to get setup.

  14. matt Says:

iv got half of an idea we all crowd up a small church(theres lots of small churches) and make some commotion of some sort
thats all i got someone can come up with the rest

  15. anonymous Says:

idea for flash mob – a large group of people link arms and skip down rundle mall
