It was our 5th year running the ‘No Pants Tram Ride‘ event in Adelaide, South Australia. This year we were one of 59 cities worldwide participating in Improv Everywhere’s Global No Pants Subway Ride. After temperatures in the low 40?s C the weekend before we were unlucky to have a cold and rainy day on January 8th and had a pretty small turnout of 8 for our ride. Still, it was great fun as always and we got some good reactions.

For the second leg of our ride (riding from Glenelg back into the city) we did our variation on the standard ride, dubbed ‘Pants for Peace.’ We have our participants spread throughout the tram and about halfway through the ride, one person starts walking through and telling people she is collecting pants for a charity, called ‘pants for peace,’ to give to the homeless. She asks various random people on the tram who, of course, don’t give up their pants. Eventually she comes to one of the participants who ponders for a minute then says ‘why they hell not’ and proceeds to take off and hand over their pants to much gasping and even cheering from the rest of the tram. The pants collector continues down the tram and collects pants from each of our participants who ride out the rest of the journey pantsless. This idea gets a great reaction as well and is something different to do on the way back.

We will have some photos and videos from the event up in this post shortly.

Improv Everywhere Documentary

Improv Everywhere’s Matt Adams is currently making a documentary about Improv Everywhere and is raising funds on Kickstarter to finish it. The film will tell the story of IE and how it spread around the world. They still need more funds to get the project rolling so if this is something you’d like to see happen, head on over to this page and donate some money towards the project.

Stealthy ninjas descended on Adelaide on Saturday, September 17. Dressed in black, they made their way through Rundle St. and Rundle Mall, silently moving through the crowds of people enjoying the shopping.

Adelaide Flashmob’s annual Ninja Raid on Adelaide took off without a hitch. 30 ninjas joined in on the fun as we surprised shoppers and drew crowds of onlookers. One of the highlights was a game of “Sensei Says” – like Simon Says… but with ninjas! People watched as we stalked, hid, and pulled awesome ninja poses in Rundle Mall.

While not all parts of the event went as smoothly as possible (due to some rowdy lads in the Mall), those who came had a good time. Thanks to everyone who came along, and we hope to catch you at next year’s event!

When: Friday March 11th 7pm (Facebook Event Coming Soon)

The Event: 30 Seconds of Fame

The Idea: Giving random people their time (brief) in the lime light.

Who: There will be something for everyone to do and plenty of room for creativity.

Whats Involved: We camp outside a predetermined shop and nominate a target ‘Celebrity’ as they enter. While they’re inside we quickly set up the outside of the shop as if its a red carpet affair complete with Security, Media and screaming fans. When the target exits we give them the full celebrity treatment: Security escort, cameras flashing away, fans screaming, gasping and asking for autographs and anything else you can think of to make the moment. After 30 seconds is up we quickly pack up and disperse and prepare for the next target.

We hope everyone can really get into this event. Get creative! Raid your wardrobe for costumes and props. Heres some ideas to get you started:

Photographers

Usually we encourage photographers to be discreet when taking photos at our events but the opposite is true here. The bigger the camera the better! Flash photography is encouraged. How about laminated press passes?

Security

Security will need to look the part with black or grey suits… and maybe dark sunglasses too.

Reporters

News reporter/ camera man teams encouraged, this could be your big scoop! Newspaper reporters with notepads and pens.

Fans

Can you scream? We Want You! Make lots of noise, ask for autographs, hold up signs ‘We Love You,’ take photos and video on your phones.

What are you planning? Discuss roles, costumes, props and other ideas in the comment below!
